We have recently partnered up with Confederation Park 55+ Activity Centre and we could not be more thrilled. Confederation Park 55+ Activity Centre is celebrating its 41st year of providing a vibrant place where Calgary’s seniors can be physically, mentally and socially active They are a truly active senior club with over 650 members and a volunteer base of about 250. There are 40 plus classes offered throughout the year, as well as numerous special events, dances, club activities and seminars.
Their Tea & Conversations event has been running successfully for 36 years, and provides vulnerable seniors with a chance to get out, socialize and connect with their community on a weekly basis. For many, it is their only social interaction. They even arrange transportation to and from the Centre, so mobility issues won’t prevent seniors from enjoying a full afternoon of music, dancing, socializing, and light nourishment in a safe and caring environment.
Tea & Conversation is a lot of fun – but addresses the root causes of an intensely serious issue. For seniors with health and/or mobility issues, getting out and interacting with the community is an immense challenge. Many are lonely, widowed and separated from the younger members of their extended families. For most, this is their only outing for the week, their only time to get active, and a cherished opportunity to socialize with their peers.
Global – Love Care had the pleasure of sponsoring a Tea & Conversation event and it was a pleasure as we see the value of this much needed program and how it brings such joy to isolated seniors and what good it does for them to have an outing to look forward to.
Here are some of their participant’s feedback about the T&C program:
“It is the highlight of the week for me and keeps my frame of mind more active with the dancing and talking to others.”
“We have a lot of friends here now. I don’t know what we would have done without it.”
“It’s been a big part of our lives – to belong.”
“I have so enjoyed myself and the others who have the opportunity to travel by taxi to Confederation Park. It is the highlight of the week for us all and keeps our frame of mind more active with the dancing and talking to others.”
